Marjon V. Kamara, the Chair of the Commission on the Status of Women and also the representative from Liberia, held an informal briefing for NGOs to discuss the future activity of the UN on improving the status of women. Ms. Kamara applauded that the NGO community continuing to grow and expand, giving them the ability to reach out to the international community. On the Commission on the status of women, there will be a priority theme, a review theme, and as well as an emerging issue. The priority theme is the elimination and prevention of violence against women, and the review theme is equal sharing of responsibilities between women and men, including caregiving in the context of HIV/AIDS. The emerging issue has to do with key gender equality issues that will reflect post 2015 development framework. For the year 2014, the theme will be the challenges and achievements in implementing the Millennium Development Goals for women and girls. The Commission on the Status of Women will hold their annual sessions from March 4-March 15. Furthermore, webcasting, Facebook, and Twitter will all be accessible resources during the meetings. Also, be advised that notices on the Commission on the Status of Women will be given to registered organizations and who is in charge of them.
